Window roller shades are one of the best window treatment options for fancy yet inexpensive home décor. However sometimes they need to be worked on a bit to make them really stand out of their plain looks. Here are some helpful suggestions on how you could make this happen.
There are countless ways to embellish the window roller shades. Let’s start with discussing the fabric first. Once you have the right window roller shades for your windows, that fit your windows well, you can start searching for the right fabric to cover it up with. Opt for fabric that is easy to maintain and goes with the rest of the home décor. Also buy some good adhesive, as well as embellishments such as trim and tassels.
Once through with that, you can cover the fabric around the shades. Make sure the fabric you cut out is a about an inch larger than its size on all sides, so that you can stick it well from the borders. Let the adhesive dry and then start decorating it with your embellishments. At the bottom you can go a bit wild with danglers! Now you can roll it back up, and use your shades as per the instructions of your manufacturer.
Another great way of personalizing those plain looking window roller shades to match with the rest of the home décor is by getting some hand painting done on it. And the best part is that you do not have to be Picasso for that either! All you need a bit of an idea and a few strokes of brush and your printed window roller shades would be ready!
To start with the painting of your roller shades, purchase a good set of them that have fine texture. The most preferable paint options here are the acrylic paints. Now start noting down the colors of the room and the doors as well the windows. Decide if you like your roller shades to be in complete contrast or matching with the rest of the color tones around. Pick up the paints in the color of your choice and start making strips, circles, swirls, etc, in anyway that you prefer. Painting a mural is another option if you are confident using the brush. For murals you can try out anything starting form starry night skies, to cloudy weather, to outdoor scenes, sports equipments, ballet shoes, etc. You can even get it signature styled, by writing the name of the owner of the room in calligraphic styles. Just make sure that you do not apply the paint either too thick or too thin.
You can even consider the option of a decoupage, using a tissue paper. Decoupage it just the way a wooden surface would have the decoupage done, except that instead of using the decoupage glue, here you would have to use a strong adhesive spray with a final surfacing of the polyurethane spray or the light coat for properly sealing up the design.
